Perhaps the neat cataclysm in tech are the heaps of gizmo tossed on the metaphoric funeral funeral pyre too betimes . Maybe it was poor marketing , an unfounded lack of support , or simply bad timing that did them in , but whatever the case , they pop off much too soon .
Last week , I asked what were some great gadgets and technologiesthat went the way of the dinosaurbefore they were able to live up to their full potentiality . Many answered with some forwards - cerebrate ironware and others with gadgets that were more a refining on an already existing platform . In a few fount , flake and piece of these machines have trickled into other products and service , but all of these gadgets partake in their fate in extinction .
The Commodore Amiga
At a time when Macs were unexpandable , single tasking , monochromatic box seat and PC ’s were dominated by the command blood line , the Amiga introduced an expandable computer with consecrate computer graphic and audio coprocessors that was able to exhibit color graphics , had stereo audio , a build - in program line line on top of a windows - based GUI , and preemptive multitasking .

Compaq iPAQ
I owned a Compaq iPAQ in the early 2000 ’s and then upgraded to an HP iPAQ around 2004 , they were swell little machine ! They ran very swimmingly and could do fairly much everything your PC could . I definitely remember these running well and being more functional than the first smartphones that come up out . Not to observe the barrage sprightliness , which was amazing !

Sega Game Gear
Other than crushing 6 AA batteries every three hours . It was a self-colored handheld . And it was in color .

Atari Lynx
If we ’re going to be mentioning the Game Gear on this list , then it ’s toilsome to imagine that Atari ’s petty handheld would n’t get a situation somewhere , since it gambol the first color LCD before Sega would release the Game Gear the next year ( even then the Lynx was cheaper with better battery life-time in comparison ) . It was ultimately crushed by the Nintendo competition , and that ’s actually a shame . This twist was a full-strength petty guy .
Apple Newton
The Newton ! It was a PDA before palm and a tablet before the iPad . It was never recognize for its flair .

Microsoft Zune
To be fair I do n’t really care about the hardware , although my 2nd Gen 120 is still running just ok . But I still like the software better than anything run on iOS . It ’s easy to navigate and it ’s manipulation of music and podcasts is pretty much as good as you could want . I’d really like it if Microsoft would just open up source the player software , so I could do something like lam it on a Raspberry , then I could do something like incorporate it into a dashboard system .

The Zune may not have been so much forward - thinking as it was just late to the biz , but as many of you direct out , the approximation that the iPod was a superior alternative to the misunderstood Zune has beenhistorically overestimated .
I also felt compelled to include it because you were allvery passionate about this one .
ReplayTV DVR
I had a ReplayTV DVR , and loved it . I was always befuddle by the fact that TiVo seize most of the food market ploughshare ( and finally force it out of business ) , because the ReplayTV seemed so much more hefty , and even more user - friendly than the TiVo .

Panasonic 3DO
Does anyone remember the 3DO console table ? It was a skanky niggling gimmick ! Dragons Lair ( sensational ) and many other titles that were almost like playing the movies . It was out only a very short time , with peradventure 20 - 30 total title of respect . Crazy !

Sony Mini Disc
know my minidisc players . Had a couple of them in the 1990 ’s . So nearly a hit , but ended up as just a transition mathematical product between cd and MP3 player , which they ultimately could n’t contend with on size or storage .

Sega Dreamcast
One of my all - time favorite play system . I still have mine and happily rive it out to play . It was superior to most other systems at the time , had build in connection connectivity , and I had mine chipped so I could bask Nipponese games , which were massively good than the US games- some of which made full use of the Visual Memory Units ( and even had mini game for them)- I absolutely sleep with this system . It did indeed die before its time , and I always find the Xbox was its offspring in many respects . But the Xbox was never my Dreamcast .

Google Glass (Maybe)
I sincerely doubt the Glass was ever meant as anything other than a thoroughgoing proof of concept . It ’ll be back in another human body , and presently . Whether this is prescribed is up to the somebody .
viafriskfyr32
Wearable computer science is doubtless in our future , but Google Glass ( at least in its current mannikin ) is n’t it . Whether we ’ll be expect hack at this ungainly AR headset as the grandfather of much more adequate to tech remains to be seen .
Have any more suggestion that did n’t make the list ? What are other great tech Nostradamuses that we dismissed despite their genius ?
