We ’re inundated with comic book flick and TV shows these daytime . But for a decade now , we ’ve been in the age of the “ practical ” wedge facial expression . And that was okay in the beginning , when everyone was distressed about fuck off regular people to take this genre seriously . But we are far past that gunpoint now , and there are some thing we demand to see .
1) Discowing
This is where I earnestly advocate for my favorite costume of all clip , the sartorial magnificence of Dick Grayson ’s post - Robin excursion as Nightwing . Arrow was heroic to make Oliver Queen a more Batman - esque character and infused many aspects of the Dark Knight into his fictitious character and setting , resulting in a dark green cap , black show burnish over his eyes alternatively of a masquerade , a bad posture , and a city that was needlessly renamed Starling City . Some of that has been toned down over the year — he has a substantial mask , Staling is now Star City , and then there was that brief , brilliant moment Ollie used a packing baseball glove arrow — but the show should have gone further . Arrow ’s Ollie is not the category warrior that he was in the comedian , and they ditch all the Robin Hood - theme caparison the character has that paid homage to that . Bring back the moustache and hat . Is this just because hat are fun ? peradventure .
5) Basically, all the X-Men’s actual comic outfits
The X - Men movies were the ones that part all of this — these assholes showed up in black leather and defeat a generation of more creative costume . Yes , comic Bible costumes may not translate direct to last - action , but basically declaring “ black leather jumpsuit for EVERYONE ! ” was lazy . I mean , violent storm get a cape , and that ’s kind of all I commemorate . Hell , the movies are why we never saw Mystique with a belt made of skull . rather , she was naked all the time rather . Naked is cool , but skull belt are better .
6) Scarlet Witch’s headpiece
Okay , this technically could have gone in the X - Men entry , but that ’s the Fox universe and this is a plea for Marvel and Disney : please give the Scarlet Witch her headpiece back . Elizabeth Olsen ’s Wanda ’s connection to her famous comics name is a carmine coat . Now , it ’s a cool coat and all , but the matter that makes her character ’s aspect iconic is the big ol’ red thing on her head . Marvel is a riddle when it add up to costuming . A expectant routine of their quality have costume that reflect their laughable book counterparts , but then there a few whom they have just yield up on doing DoJ to .
7) Aquaman
Why ca n’t we have overnice things ? And by “ dainty matter , ” I have in mind Jason Momoa in a ) some real color and b ) spandex . We ’re all well aware that the DCEU wants desperately to make Aquaman “ badass ” and that means a bunch of armor and some colour bleaching , I guess . But there ’s got to be some happy medium between what we ’ve seen and what the comics give him . In fact , I really have some hope that James Wan will give birth a brighter version of this character , since while Mera see in theJustice League traileris as lave out as ever , thisphoto Wan shared is much more what we expect from Atlantis . And if the cleaning lady develop the low - stinger , form - meet , bright costume and the human race does not , that will be a shame .
8) Baron Mordo’s… whatever those things on his shoulders are
Villains really get the light shrift in superhero pic . Maybe it is harder to take a baddie in an elaborate get - up gravely , peculiarly if they ’re meant to be people from our Earth and our time . But that articulate , Doctor Strange basically had his comics costume in his movie , down to the untamed cape and tall arrest . If he ’s going to fight Strange , he ca n’t just match him in magic . He has to match him in mode .
9) Deadman’s giant letter D
I can feel it in my bones : the DCEU ’s Justice League Dark is going to tone Deadman ’s search way down . As it is — save for Swamp Thing — the balance of the squad is pretty solemn in their original comic ledger looks . The team for the movie will supposedly be Constantine , Swamp Thing , Madame Xanadu , Deadman , and Zatanna — that ’s a trenchcoat , clay and leaf , a attire and jewelry , and a disastrous and bloodless magician ’s tuxedo and top chapeau . Deadman ’s the one with the most unparalleled superhero costume , and he should get to keep it . Red jump suit with a “ D ” on it . For Deadman .
10) Squirrel Girl’s tail
Freeform ’s New Warriors is so going to go for teen - well-disposed looks . And for Doreen Green , I bet anything it ’s like a brownish fur coat and some brownish leggings . The rest of her look can be tamed a fair snatch , actually , but some exec is going to think the keister is too ridiculous . And if Squirrel Girl does n’t have a giant , downy tail on this show , we should refuse to watch . We should , but we wo n’t . We ’re that excited for this .
11) Nomad
After Captain America : Civil War , Steve Rogers is no longer a sanctioned superhero . In the comics , Steve has abandon the championship and costume of Captain America a number of time . One of those led to the creation of Nomad , who has any number of costume I would give my right arm to see on Chris Evans . Key to all of them is a very deep v - neck , an exuberant outcropping from the shoulder that are ensure by roofy , and a masquerade that cover more or less too much of the case to not look weird . Please , give me this . Make this work , Marvel . You got the star - spangled look to oeuvre . Give me this one .
