If I were catch in an earthquake , I ’d be pretty racing shell - appalled . But Sebastian Alegria , a 14 - year - old Chilean high school student , decided to hack together a twitter alert system that ’s already a class ahead of the Chilean government ’s own planned undertaking .
Alegria ’s rudimentary yet efficient system comes from having survived Chile ’s own earthquakes last class and seeing the destruction that cut across Japan in the first place this year . Keen on finding an inexpensive answer for other earthquake detecting , he rigged an Arduino and domestic temblor sensor to nip seconds before detectable seismal activity . pinch from@AlarmaSismos , it has already successfully detected every major earthquake that could be felt from Santiago since May . And it ’s pack on the Twitter follower .
The only thing he has go out to do is expatiate the undertaking . He project on deploy more sensors throughout the rural area , and is even working with carrier to start sending texts to people . Having the government help him a second might not hurt either . [ The Next internet ]
