Last nighttime ’s episode Alphas — “ Never Let Me Go ” — was n’t the best episode of Syfy ’s fledgling drama , but it did cross over with another one of the television channel ’s prime time prop in a brief , devious nod to Warehouse 13 .
Dr. Vanessa Calder ( a.k.a . Lindsay Wagner a.k.a . Jaime Sommers ) assisted Dr. Rosen and Rachel in enquire a rash of cryptical death that have paralyzed a small townspeople .
After last hebdomad ’s mythology - packed showcase of the team ’s human lookup railway locomotive Gary ( “ Rosetta ” ) , Alphas returned with a less interesting spotlight on super - senses - afflicted wallflower Rachel . tenacious taradiddle short , Rachel ’s powers are so potent she ca n’t maintain a romantic relationship — making out is n’t fun when you’re able to taste every enzyme in your fancy man ’s saliva .
To urge her up , Dr. Rosen takes her on a mission to rural Pennsylvania , where the acquaintance of a gamy - schooling football equipment male child are careen over from unwritten pipe organ failure .
“ Rosetta ” was a fairly generic entry into the Alphas canon . It had some fun moment ( Hicks beating up an intact high school football team using his hyper - physiological reaction ) , a splatter of funniness ( the fact that none of the team knew what politics agency they belonged to ) , and the needful “ believable ” major power ( an Alpha who can control people ’s oxytocin intake ) .
At the same time , this sequence had the feel of a typical “ commonwealth rube mystery ” X - Files episode . But even the sleazy X - file episodes were buoyed in some way by the personal appeal of its leads .
exclude Gary — whose story discharge last instalment hint he could become a potential antagonist of Dr. Rosen ’s government backers — grapheme like Bill , Hicks , and Nina are still unidentified quantity . Therefore , it band vacuous when Dr. Rosen and the work party “ loved ” Rachel back to life , as we still have almost no clue if these character determine their relationships by anything but “ gently rile co - workers . ”
Alphas work well in “ Rosetta ” when it built the show ’s gonzo mythology ( Red Flag ’s drawing card communicates through a hairbrush ! ) and reveled in the moral ambiguity of the team ’s mission . We catch some of that in “ Never have Me Go ” — this episode ’s Alpha was also shipped off to Binghamton for imprisonment — but the episode mostly focalise on a wham - bam - quickly - solved trail of clue . Some more craziness within confines and less straight adjective would gain the show .
