The main love story of the season is between Takeshi and Quellcrist , but not in the mode you might reckon . During season one , Takeshi ( then play by Joel Kinnaman ) had vision of his girlfriend guiding him along his path — but that was n’t the real Quellcrist , nor was it an accurate depiction of their human relationship . The real Quellcristis a tragical hero , bended but not broken from age of being trapped in a cave with nothing but her shamed moral sense to keep her fellowship ( not to mention she ’s partake in her stack with an exotic get retaliation over the colonization of Harlan ’s World ) . She ’s determined to right the wrongs of her past by put down the technology she ’d manufacture . Takeshi ’s goal may have been Quellcrist , but he was not hers . He is a misdirection . “ The love moment that they have in time of year two is really her when she is weak , when she needs help . During most of the time of year , Trepp is in struggle with her married woman , Myka ( Sharon Taylor ) , who lose her vocation as an archaelogue and got a job in a bar to support their family . Trepp ’s Father-God and sidekick did n’t make it , mean her wife and son are all she has left . The whole confrontation is tense and add up across like Trepp is go to do the ultimate sacrifice and die to save her home . This was something Missick was afraid of the whole time — especially given the history of the Bury Your Gays image , or the propensity to kill off characters in non - cishet relationships . Luckily , that did n’t happen .
“ I kept asking , I was like : ‘ Do I die ? ’ ‘ No you ’re not going to cash in one’s chips . ’ I ’m wish , ‘ Are you certain I ’m not going to die ? ’ Because of that same thought [ the Bury Your Gays trope ] , ” Missick state . “ Altered Carbon time of year two is so much about a love report , and it ’s the master love history of Takeshi and Quell . But then you also see this love story between Trepp and her married woman and her family and her son … The fact that that love story is to stay intact is , in a way , a beautiful affair . ”
You ’d be hard - entreat to encounter a lot of hope at the destruction of the season , as most of the character are down , but looking forward there ’s a mint of it to be regain , even through the smoky veneer of the cyber-terrorist musical genre .
