An ode to Aerogel

Back in 1999 , theStardust missionlaunched to trap particle of a comet and return the sample to Earth . The Stardust ballistic capsule made its scheduled tryst with Comet Wild 2 in 2004 , captured comet - debris in aerogel , and successfully return the sampling .

The repose of the story is complicated and cool enough to be saved for another day . In the meanwhile , here ’s an ode to the wonder - fabric aerogel that captured those particles , and the late advances to the next propagation of the material that is unassailable enough to capture comet dust , yet is lighter than strain .
