James Gunn ’s new DC Universehas found its Supergirl , and she already knows how to vanish . Milly Alcock , who played the young dragon - riding Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen onHBO ’s House of the Dragon , has been cast as the Kryptonian , beating out several other actress for the persona .
It ’s believed the reference will first appear in Gunn ’s Superman : Legacy , scheduled for release in 2025 , before star in her own movie , Supergirl : Woman of Tomorrow . That ’s not confirmed — but the character will look in something before Supergirl and , with Superman about to start filming , that ’s the logical conclusion .
Deadlinefirst reported the news , to which Gunn replied on Instagram “ This is accurate . Milly is a incredibly gifted young actor . ” Alcockreportedly nonplus outLocke & Key ’s Emilia Jones and Supergirl voice actressMeg Donnellyin the last rounds of casting .

When first announcing that Supergirl was part of Gunn and Peter Safran ’s new imaginativeness for DC , the twain cited the Tom King comic and explain how this version of the lineament is different from others we ’ve see on screen . “ Superman was direct to Earth and he was raised by fabulously loving parents , whereas Carol was in a spell of Krypton that stray off from the major planet and experience there for the first 14 old age of her life , ” Gunn say . “ [ It was ] a horrible billet where she ascertain everybody around her dice . We ’ve already seen Alcock play a moderately have it away up fictional character so we have a feeling she ’s going to crush this one .
