Unsurprisingly , given the upcoming Netflix show , Marvel is also take back the Defenders in the comedian , with author Brian Michael Bendis and artist David Marquez . It will be interesting to see what Bendis does with Jessica Jones and Luke Cage , who are alienated as of her new serial . And , again , this rule book is taking some cue from the Netflix shows , redact all the Defenders in New York and work together against crime there . Bendis called it “ a sprawling , Godfather - corresponding epic at the street level of the Marvel Universe ” focus on organized crime in a “ advanced ” way .
Despite all that , there ’s a fair amount here that feels like a retread of things that Bendis has done before or that Netflix is doing . Only time will say .
