Clippy was an estimation ahead of its time — just awfully executed . The excessively well-disposed paper clip has since become anendless jokethat evenMicrosoft rake on every once in awhile . But as Cortana ’s conquest acrossWindows 10and the newSpartan browsercontinues , it seems the popular phonation assistant will also be get to Office .
According to The Verge’sMicrosoft news guru Tom Warren , the company is prove a “ Work Assistant ” app that will let people open up , edit , and part content just with voice commands and Cortana . summons sources intimate with the app ’s plan , Warren says Microsoft intends to bring the feature to both desktop and mobile .
But perhaps the most interesting implication is that the app might wreak Cortana characteristic to software platforms because of Microsoft ’s current multi - OS compulsion of late . Warren explains :
Given Microsoft ’s recent launches of Office for iOS and Android , and a cover focus on making its services and apps available across all chopine , it should n’t be surprising that Cortana will eventually make the leap . Business Insider reportedin November that Microsoft ’s Julie Larson - Green confirmed Cortana will make its way to other operating systems , and Office consolidation is part of a number of plan for the digital supporter .
To say Cortana will be Clippy 2.0 is n’t exactly accurate . Clippy was a microbe - eyed paper magazine who would butt in when it thought you ask help , whereas Cortana will most likely be a much more insidious and utilitarian pick . But nontheless is basically a similar estimation of bringing automated help to Office . Hopefully this prison term around , Microsoft will actually be proud of the assistant they create .
