The Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity has expelled four members at its University of Georgia chapter after a video surfaced of men mocking slavery and using a racial slur.

The NSFW video shared online Friday showed four white men, with one appearing to beat another with a belt as he ordered “Pick my cotton, b—-.” Soon, another man is heard saying, “You’re not using the right words.” After which he states, “Pick my cotton, n—–.” The video has been viewed more than 55,000 times.

Fraternity officials said they investigation the incident alongside staff and members of the Xi Lambda chapter and determined that the video was not part of a TKE event and did not take place on any chapter premises.

Still, the statement continues, “these four individuals acted outside the expectations of our membership and their chapter and therefore were removed from both.”

Officials with the university’s Student Government Association condemned the videoin a tweeted statement, revealing that the chapter has been suspended.

“We appreciate those of you who have been engaging in this important dialogue about bigotry and the ways in which people who engage in it can be held accountable for their actions,” the statement read.

The incident comes nearly a year after officials at Syracuse University removed 18 Theta Tau fraternity members from classes over a pair of videos the school’s president called “disgusting.”
