The crew atDeepSeaNews.comsent the video over to Dr. Timothy S. Wood , an expert on fresh water bryozoa and an officer with the International Bryozoology Association ( what fun party they must have , eh ? ) , and he had this to say about it :
Thanks for the telecasting – I had not see it before . No , these are not sea moss ! They are clod of annelid worms , almost certainly tubificids ( Naididae , plausibly genus Tubifex ) . Normally these go on in soil and sediment , peculiarly at the bottom and edges of contaminated streams . In the exposure they have manifestly get into a pipeline somehow , and in the absence of stain they are coil around each other . The contractions you see are the termination of a single dirt ball catching and then stimulating all the others to do the same almost at the same time , so it look like a single boastful muscle contracting . Interesting TV .
Here ’s a more clear video of these Tubiflex louse in the wilderness . Not quite as atrocious , but still jolly gross .
