Do You Have to Be Quiet in a Coffee Shop?

I live 2,912 geographical mile from the office . Understandably , I do n’t make it in every day — mostly I telecommute . And , because I like to see more of the world than my kitchen , that signify a lot of coffee bar working .

I ’ve catch a circuit of place I like to remove over the course of study of a hebdomad — I call it the coffee bean workshop crawl . Some slur are bustling and energetic , some are quiet and solemn . I usually plug in my headphones , hop on the ol’ Infobahn , and melt the mean solar day away rearranging countersign . Yesterday , I could n’t get focused — one of my tablemates was sky-high talking about her company ’s product with another enterpriser ( ah , San Francisco … ) , and I got to thinking : Is this appropriate ? Since almost everyone here is hear to work , should n’t people be quiet in coffee shops ?

To respond this motion , I did what any person whose main inter-group communication with the outside world ( other than coffee shop ) was a faceless dialogue via electronic communicating medium would do : I enquire the Internet . And the Internet answered back .

Nobody took issuance with my assumption that , in the Age of Telecommuting , coffee shop class are the corporate office of the distant workforce , the common corporate HQ of sputter startups . But scarce anyone recall that there was any behavioral expectation besides keeping your pants on and partake the electric outlet with that daylight ’s coworkers .
