In this hebdomad ’s Gizmodo University : Discover Electronics , we ’re diving headfirst into the principle theories of electronics . The 2d of four classes in this series , “ Volts , Amps , and Ohms ” is presented in continuative with Sparkle Labs .
Good morning class , today we will be building off of last hebdomad ’s launching to electronics theory . If you missed last class , please take a consequence and reviewthe last deterrent example , paying particular attention to Chapter 5 . in good order then , let ’s get start .

Chapter 1: The Resistor
The ResistorfromSparkle LabsonVimeo .
So , now that we ’ve get the basics of resistance down and can recite that ready to hand mnemonic from memory ( Big Boys Race Our Young daughter But Violet the Great Wins ) . we ’ll move onto Dividing Voltage . If you think you ’ve got a good mnemotechnical , tell us in Comments !
Chapter 2: Voltage Divider
Voltage DividerfromSparkle LabsonVimeo .
Take some prison term to experiment with your unexampled voltage divider and familiarize yourself thoroughly with it because we ’re taking this concept a step further with our word of circuit in serial and analog .
Chapter 3: Series / Parallel
Series and ParallelfromSparkle LabsonVimeo .
Remember , two resistor in series will increase the immunity by R = R1+R2 , two resistance in parallel will decrease resistance by 1 / R = 1 / R1 + 1 / R2 . If you are having problem understanding the maths or concept , feel free to expect your Sparkle Labs TA in the Comments section below !
Chapter 4: Ohm’s Law
Ohm ’s LawfromSparkle LabsonVimeo .
Simply put : voltage goes up , current goes up ; resistance give out up , current move down . This is the fundament of Ohm ’s police force : emf = Current x Resistance ( V = IR ) . Once you ’ve gotten the hang of it , see if you may replicate the calculation from the video . Up next , using Ohm ’s Law to pick the right resistor for the job .
Chapter 5: Determine the Correct Resistor

Now I know what you ’re think , “ Why did n’t he tell us about Wolfram Alpha to commence with ? Why all the math on a Saturday dawn ? ” Because mathematics work up character , that ’s why .
Thanks , that ’s it for this workweek . If you ’ve flummox any additional questions , TA ’s are look and eager to help oneself in the Comments section until 2 premier Eastern . Check outSparkle Labsfor more information . We ’ll see you back here , next Saturday , at 12 pm Eastern for Lesson 3 : detector and Transistors .
