When the trailer for Gods of Egypt came out earlier this month , everyone note a couple of things : it ’s plaster cast was predominantly Caucasoid , which is uncanny , look at where and when it was place . Now , the studio and director have admitted that they could have done better there .

After the prevue and posters for the film arrived , the film start to generate a considerable amount of disputation for its casting choices . In response , both Alex Proyas and Lionsgate put out statements :
Alex Proyas : “ The summons of drift a movie has many complicated variables , but it is open that our casting selection should have been more divers . I sincerely apologize to those who are offended by the decisions we made . ”
Lionsgate : ” We recognize that it is our duty to aid check that redact decision muse the diversity and cultivation of the metre periods portrayed . In this instance we failed to live up to our own standards of sensibility and diversity , for which we unfeignedly apologize . Lionsgate is deeply attached to nominate film that reflect the diversity of our audiences . We have , can and will continue to do better. ”
This sort of whitewashing is just the late in a long logical argument of instance : just look at Ridley Scott ’s film The Exodus , which did pretty much exactly the same matter . It ’s also not like we ’re miss in choice : as one of our commenters ( Ghost ) take down , Rami Malek ( who ’s currently star in Mr. Robot ) , is not only Egyptian , but he played a Pharaoh .
While it ’s squeamish to see the admission that they could have done more , there needs to be more done : firm change to retch choices . This is a change that wo n’t happen overnight , but hopefully , an admission like this will be the first step in a longer line of changes .
Supreme Being of Egypt will attain theater in February 2016 .
