Google ’s Arts & Culture team start join forces with the museum on taking its solicitation digital back in 2016 , Program Manager Chance Coughenour publish in aGoogle blogon Thursday . That catalogue is now available online for users globally to revisit some of the rich cultural heritage that was house in the museum ’s massive collection .
The flak that tore through the museum originally this year devastated 200 years of treasured items . Among thethose lost in the firewere dinosaur bones , remains of the sometime human found in the Americas known asLuzia(some of which wereable to be go back ) , Egyptian artifact , and numerous other scientifically and culturally significant items .
Luiz Duarte , a vice film director at the museum , describedthe incident at the time as an “ intolerable catastrophe . ” President Michel Temer of Braziltweetedthat the loss of the museum ’s collection was “ incalculable for Brazil . ”
Since the fire in September , more than 1,500 itemshave been recovered from the debris , and plans for beginning the slow process of restore the museum are reportedlyalready afoot . The museum ’s directorAlexander Kellner saidit ’s “ crucial to stress that the National Museum , despite having lose a significant part of its collection , has not suffer its power to bring forth knowledge . ”
