The true nature of dismal matter celebrate many physicists alive at Nox , and researchers from around the world are trying to work out how to make it fit in our current models .

Although we do n’t have direct evidence of its existence , scientists are often proposing mechanisms for its fundamental interaction . The late one is call the Madala boson , an parallel to the Higgs boson , but one that interact exclusively with dark affair .

The hypothesis was put forward by investigator from Wits University in South Africa during anin - house seminaron September 6 . The squad go by Professor Bruce Mellado suggest that a   270 GeV bump in data from CERN is actually a new boson .

“ establish on a bit of features and peculiarities of the data reported by the experimentation at the LHC and collected up to the end of 2012 , the Wits HEP chemical group in collaboration with scientists in India and Sweden formulated the Madala hypothesis , ” said Mellado in astatement .

While hypotheses like this are interesting , it is in spades too soon to claim this is a prediction , let alone a discovery . CERN itself in atweethas denied a sighting of this new boson , saying : “ regretful guys , but there is no evidence so far in the # LHC data to sustain the macrocosm of a hypothetical # Madala # boson . ”

The 270 GeV surplusage was evidently   detected with a certainty of three sigma ( 99.87 percent ) , although that probability does not needs infer the existence of a newfangled boson .   By comparing , the ill-famed 750 GeV swelling announcedlast Decemberhad a 3.9 sigma , butit disappearedwhen more data was taken . 99.87 percent might seem like good betting odds if you were wager for its existence , but if it was a plane with a   risk of falling once every 500 flights , you might not be so sure of those chances .

Physicists have to be very strict when it come to fresh particles . Detections need to pass thefive sigma(99.9999 percentage ) limit to be considered new discoveries . So to ascertain out if the 270 GeV swelling is a real speck , and if it is the Madala boson , we ’ll have to expect and see .
