It ’s a really unsound time to be remaking the evil - NASA movie Capricorn One , what with NASA ’s budget under besieging and the future of crewed spacefaring in incertitude . The 1978 original run on conspiracy possibility that the Moon landing were fake , with a story of a faked Mars landing . A young Capricorn seems both outdated and horribly timed , but director John Moore ( Behind Enemy Lines ) and author Peter Buchman ( Jurassic Park 3 , Eragon ) are compulsive to give it to us . In the original Capricorn , starring Elliot Gould , OJ Simpson and other LXX stalwarts , NASA is all put to put the first men ( no women , natch ) on Mars . But then the psychotic space delegacy realizes that its Mars lander has a fateful flaw in its life support organisation . So NASA launch the workmanship , with no citizenry on control panel , and keep the astronauts prisoner for month . The astronauts are force to act out fake Mars landings , and a technician remark their television set provender is arriving before the garden rocket ’s telemetry ( which is impossible ) — so naughty NASA makes him disappear . finally , the astronauts actualise they , too , will have to pass away to insure their secrecy . And for certain enough , it ’s report that they ’ve “ burn up on reentry . ” They stage a daring escape tender , but only one of them actually drive away , come at the astronauts ’ own memorial service to let on the fraudulence .
