During an appearance on Monday’sLate Night with Seth Meyers, Gyllenhaal, 43, spoke about playing Dalton in Prime Video’sRoad House. The original 1989 movie starred the late Swayze, who died on Sept. 14, 2009 at age 57 after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Gyllenhaal, who featured alongside Swayze in 2001’sDonnie Darko, explained how he was a big fan of the late actor’s movies. “I think I’ve watchedRoad Houseprobably like 10 times, I’ve watchedPoint Breakmaybe 500 times,” theBrokeback Mountainstar told Meyers, 50.
However, one movie that stands out to him is 1987’sDirty Dancingas it played a big part in his childhood.
Jake and his sisterMaggie Gyllenhaalboth starred alongside Swayze inDonnie Darko. Jake played the titular character, while Maggie starred as his sister Elizabeth in the film. Meanwhile, Swayze starred as motivational speaker Jim Cunningham.

Ahead ofRoad House’s Prime Video release on March 21, Gyllenhaalpaid tribute to SwayzeonInstagram, sharing a throwback photo of the pair from 2003.
“I’ve been thinking back about my time working with Patrick onDonnie Darko, and rewatching this great man in the originalRoad Houseplus so many other films. I’ve never stopped being a fan,” he wrote in the caption.
“He was such a talent and I continue to have so much respect and admiration for what he put out and into the world. I’ll never forget his kindness to me when I was starting out— he didn’t have to take the time, but he always did. We’ve made a differentRHthis time around, but hoping it’s one he would’ve had fun watching!”
