HoYeon Jungmade thered carpether runway.
Marking her first major Hollywood carpet, Jung dazzled in a hand-embroidered Louis Vuitton gown, decked with crystals and silver beads. The silk spaghetti strap ensemble’s delicate details were created with a nod to her Korean heritage in mind, according to the actress. (See an exclusive close-up look at the making of the dress, below.)
Herstylist Aeri Yunechoed that sentiment. “When I saw the dress first time it reminded me of the traditional Korean abalone furniture (called Najeonchilgi in Korean),” she said. “I loved how Louis Vuitton mixed modern feel and Korean traditional aspects. The silhouette of the dress gives modern chic vibe and the Jacquard fabric with the hand-embroidery details give the rich Korean cultural mood. So doing the nod to the traditional hair feels so on point.”
Complementing her look, Jung’s hair paid homage to her heritage, as her dark locks were swept back into a braid adorned with a special hair tie — a modernized take on the Korean Daenggi, a traditional ribbon that was made from the same fabric as her dress.

Yun says the idea came about after seeing the dress in the works. “We started with the idea of the Daenggi later after the fitting in Paris,” she said. “We loved the Korean aspects of the dress so much and wanted to make the whole look special for a special moment with Korean heritage.”
“The dress was so on point on how familiar it was to the motherland of Korea yet how modern and cool it felt,” said her hairstylist,Jenny Cho, in a release from GHD (whose hair tools she used to style Jung’s look). “I can’t hide the fact that I was very emotional about how I got to be the one to style her hair into a modern version of the sleek traditional Korean braids and to put the Daenggi into Hoyeon’s hair.”
