The series, which follows onboard crew members navigating working life on a superyacht during a cruise in Africa’s Seychelles, saw 26-year-old Anthony Bird from London work alongside head chef Tzarina Mace-Ralph.

“I think with a sous chef things can come to another level,” Captain Jason Chambers told Mace-Ralph in the season’s first episode.

Bird began working in restaurants before taking his culinary skills to the yachting industry in 2021.

He told producers: “I’m ready to step it up and get to the next level.”

“I was lucky enough to work with a Michelin star chef on my last yacht. I feel like I’m on the periphery of becoming a head chef, so I’m excited to showcase my talent and just create some good food,” Bird continued.

Excited about her new colleague, Mace-Ralph gushed in the episode about having a fellow British chef to assist her.

However, tension between the pair began to grow when Bird couldn’t state any of his weaknesses.

“Strengths? I would say yeah, just pretty well-rounded at everything, to be honest,” he said before adding “can’t really think of too many,” faults.

“My weaknesses list is bigger than my strengths,” Mace-Ralph replied before her coworker ended up asking, “What’s with the interview process here?”

“The interview process? I don’t know anything about you and I want to know who I’m working with,” Mace-Ralph responded. “I want to go through and … I want to know your weaknesses and strengths and stuff like that and see how I can manage with the galley.”

While the sous chef insisted “we would soon find out, I guess,” the head chef described Bird’s response as a “huge red flag.”

She also told Bird that she was not a fan of egos, later adding in a confessional that her new staff member would have to “prove yourself to me in your skill."

Completing his assigned tasks of organizing and cleaning dishes, the new kitchen member told his boss, “You need to utilize me a bit more, I think.”

“I work normally a little bit more organized, efficient,” he added. “We can definitely implement plans and structures to make everything easier.”

“Lara has caused me 10 times the amount of work and now I have a new sous chef being a total twat,” she said. “I just need him to support me as a sous chef, which his position is — second to the head chef.”
